The Vallejo Center for the Arts presented “Bill Broder: Lost and Found,” a compelling solo exhibition showcasing the expressive and wide-ranging work of five decades of California artist Bill Broder.

A lifelong artist, I discovered my gift for drawing early in life. I am a guy who found I could draw at an early age, and I liked it. By age eleven I began to paint in oils. I loved the smell, the feel of the brush full of color as it moved across the surface of a drum-tight white canvas.”

With the encouragement of my father, I began oil painting as a child and later honed my skills at the San Francisco Art Institute. There I was mentored by the legendary Richard Diebenkorn, who encouraged my exploration across a variety of media and subjects. Spanning decades, my body of work represents a powerful journey through transitional art, expressed through a rich array of media: oil, charcoal, pastel, and mixed materials. My paintings reflect a deep and personal exploration of life’s experiences, filled with emotion, memory, and transformation. From bold abstracts to introspective figures, my evolving style is deeply human.
